My husband and I met in church, but that church was very controlling and several members had said very disapproving things to us when we would not "obey" leadership. We that left that church shortly after we married. That church eventually split and the Pastor left. We tried attending other churches but the wounds were not healed from our former church and we had a hard time joining a new church. During this time we had a hard time financially. Mysterious job losses, hard time paying the bills, etc. After a few years of this, while praying, God opened my eyes and showed me this scripture in Psalm 92:12-15:
The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He will grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13 Those who are planted in the house of the Lord will flourish in the courts of our God.
14 They will still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing,
15 To declare that the Lord is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.
The Holy Spirit quickened my spirit and suddenly in my mind's eye I saw my husband and I refusing to be planted in the house of the Lord (church) due to past hurts. The lack of a spiritual covering caused us to be unprotected spiritually. It was an open door for Satan to wreck havoc on our finances. I knew in my spirit the Holy Spirit was showing me our financial failures were directly related to our lack of having a home church. We were not flourishing in the courts of our God because we were not planted in the house of the Lord. There is a promise in Psalm 92 that we will still bear fruit in old age and be fresh and flourishing if we are planted in the house of the Lord. After that revelation from the Holy Spirit, we immediately joined a prior church I was a member of before meeting and marrying my husband. We stayed there for many years and volunteered too. We gave money to the church as led by the Holy Spirit since the Lord already taught us the modern day teaching on "tithing" was not New Testament. That lesson is in this blog if you are interested.
After some wonderful years at this church, and financial stability, I was in service one morning and the Holy Spirit let me know it was time to leave. He spoke this to my spirit. "You have gone as far as you can go here financially. This church believes you can only succeed financially if you tithe ten percent of your gross income and I won't go against their rule. It is time to leave."
From there we joined another church we sensed was God's choice for our family. We have been at this church for a few years and have enjoyed financial promotion. My husband has been promoted twice at work since joining this church and is working on another promotion. We volunteer at this church. We give financially to our home church what we sense the Holy Spirit is leading us to give. It is important you pray and ask God to show what church home he has for you.
